Cardio Workouts That Get You Out of the Gym!

You may be like me and find that going to a gym after a while gets very boring. I find doing the same thing, being in the same place & environment can really kill my motivation.

I think it's great to change things up a bit. To get out of the gym. I'm not saying that going to the gym is a bad way to exercise. I just think people need to realise it's not the only way to work out.

Here's 2 ways of exercising out and about;-

Staircase Workouts -

You may be familiar with this, or you may not. All you need for this exercise is stairs! So you can use the stairs in your house, football stadium stairs, hotel stairs etc. Don't be afraid to do it in public places because if there's a lift I can almost guarantee there use that instead of the stairs.

Here's an example workout:

Warm up - Use the first couple of steps for this. Go up 2-3 steps at walking pace and then back down (backwards). Do this for 3-4 minutes.

Interval 1 - Start to increase speed here. Also each time you reach the bottom add another step. So start off with 2, then 3, then 4, and so on. I'd say don't go over 10 to begin with.

Interval 2 - Once you've done the 10th step & back down go back to a warmup for 3-4 minutes. This is an important rest period.

Interval 3 - Repeat interval 1 but increase the speed further.

Interval 4 - Again back to the warmup for a rest period.

Keep repeating these steps until you have nothing left to give. This workout if done right at an intensive level is a great way of burning fat.

Wind Sprints & Hill Sprints -

Find any open area suitable for running. All you have to do here is sprint. Try 40, 60 and 100 metre wind sprints. After each sprint rest long enough to catch your breath. Then sprint again. Try to complete around 6-20 wind sprints for a great workout.

Hill sprints are also great. Find any nearby hill and sprint from the bottom to the top as fast as you can. Then walk back down for a rest period. Do this as many times as you physically can.

These sprint workouts are amazingly effective for fat burning, muscle building. Any goal you have in mind this is going to help.

3.Listen to your teacher: Obviously, your teacher is going tell you which pose is up next, but don't tune them out once you're in a pose! I find that the tiny details or suggestions they offer once you're in the pose are the real gems. One subtle tip could help you develop a completely new relationship with a pose that seemed too hard — or too easy!

How I Learned to Stop Hating Yoga

It may be National Yoga Month — a time to celebrate the ancient practice by trying out new studios around your city — but stick me in a yoga class, and my mind and breath are bound to wander. As inflexible as they come, I'm still struggling to perfect my Tree Pose and inch my heels closer to the floor while I Downward Dog, but taking an occasional yoga class has helped me realize just how important the workout can be for athletes and yogis alike. So while I won't be attempting a Tick Tock anytime soon, I've slowly been adding yoga to my normal Tabata and treadmill routine, with great results. Turns out, yoga might just have something for everyone.

Right Triangle Yoga Pose

Put your feet at the length of your leg. Stretch your arms to your sides. Rotate your right foot 90 degrees, left foot about 15 degrees to the right. Start stretching to the right. Put your right hand on the right leg or floor as you reach your edge with a straight back. Try not to arch your torso. Keep your legs straight. Raise your left hand. Try to look up at your palm.

Strike a Yoga Pose: Sugarcane

If you love Half Moon Pose, then it's time to include Sugarcane Pose into your yoga practice. This variation on the more common balancing posture gives your back and quads a huge stretch while helping tone your tush. It's an essential asana for any runner or dancer who needs to give her legs and back a little love.

Float into Half Moon Pose with your right hand planted firmly on the floor and your left leg lifted in the air. Stay for a few breaths to relax into the posture.
On your inhale, bend your left leg in toward your chest. On the exhale, reach back for your left foot with your left arm. Your left hand will catch the top of your left foot.
Once you've got a firm grip and you're stabilized in the pose, imagine you're kicking back. Press the top of your left foot into your left hand, while your hand attempts to pull the foot in toward your body. This push-pull motion will deepen the posture and give your quads a deeper stretch.
Hold for five breaths before releasing the left foot back into Half Moon Pose. Return the foot to the floor, and try it on the other side.
